Monday's coverage brought developments in business, science and sports. Here are three to catch up on, with what is established separated from what still lies ahead.
Business: IonQ announces an acquisition agreement
IonQ said it agreed to acquire cybersecurity company Elisity in an all-stock transaction valued at up to $1.3 billion, including a potential earnout. The companies want to combine quantum-related security capabilities with enterprise access controls. Closing is expected in the fourth quarter and still requires regulatory approval and other conditions. The announcement does not mean the deal has closed or its promised benefits have been achieved.
Science: Perseverance passes a driving milestone
NASA reported Monday that its Mars rover crossed Opportunity's off-world driving-distance record on October 11. Perseverance reached 28.10 miles, compared with Opportunity's 28.06 miles. This is a mobility milestone, not an announcement that the rover has discovered life.
Sports: Dallas adds experience to its defensive staff
The Cowboys added Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant, according to staff writer Patrik Walker. Christian Parker remains in charge of the defense. Pettine's addition gives the staff another experienced coach; it does not establish that the team's on-field problems have been resolved.
These are a retrospective selection from Monday's reporting, rather than three new breaking alerts. Follow-up reporting will establish the next milestones.
