Dishwasher cleaner or detergent? Check the product’s job before using it
An evergreen home-care guide: machine-cleaning products and dish detergent serve different purposes, and directions vary.

A dishwasher-cleaning product and the detergent used for a load of dishes are not automatically interchangeable. Tastic Store’s guide distinguishes products intended to maintain the machine from detergent intended to wash dishes. Before using either, check the purpose printed on the package and the instructions for your dishwasher model.
Directions differ by product. Bosch’s owner-support guide describes its machine cleaner going into the bottom of an empty dishwasher. Finish’s Deep Cleaner Liquid directions instead put the capped bottle upside down in the bottom rack, with its sticker removed, and specify an empty cycle without soap or dish detergent. Those are examples of particular products, not a universal recipe for every tablet or appliance.
Check four things before starting: the product’s intended use, where it belongs, whether the machine should be empty, and the required dose and cycle. Follow the package and model-specific manual rather than assuming that another product’s instructions apply.
Machine care also includes physical maintenance. Bosch recommends regular filter cleaning and checking spray-arm openings for blockage. A cleaning product does not replace those model-specific care instructions.
