What to know

  • Participating U.S. restaurants have a six-toy blind-box collection for a limited time, while supplies last.
  • A golden-colored Hello Kitty is part of that lineup; the announcement does not say it is made of gold.
  • The separate Downey, California, promotion offers one 14K gold-plated figurine and a no-purchase entry route.

Burger King launched its Hello Kitty and Friends kids’ meal collection on October 20. For collectors, the detail worth checking is the difference between a golden-colored toy in the meal lineup and a separate, one-of-a-kind prize offered at a California event, according to the chain’s official announcement.

What is in the collection?

Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll and Keroppi appear wearing Burger King crowns. The mystery packaging means buyers do not know which toy is inside before opening it. The special golden-colored Hello Kitty completes the six-toy lineup.

The practical limit is stock: a national launch does not guarantee that a particular restaurant has a preferred character. Check the local restaurant before making a special trip. Buying a meal also does not guarantee the golden-colored version.

The California prize has separate rules

The Golden Claw Machine event is at 10014 Paramount Boulevard in Downey on Friday, October 23, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific, or until prizes run out. The announcement’s rules say no purchase or payment is necessary; one entry is allowed per person. Eligibility is limited to adults 18 or older who are legal residents of 49 U.S. states or Washington, D.C., excluding Rhode Island, and visit the restaurant during the promotion.

Before joining a collectible hunt

Treat the meal collection and the promotional prize as separate offers. For the event’s free entry method, odds and full prize description, consult the rules posted at that restaurant. The chain has not promised that every restaurant will have every figure.
