FTC sends $9.8 million in Walmart wire-transfer fraud refunds
Checks are going to 65,022 affected consumers; recipients have 90 days to cash them.

The Federal Trade Commission said October 15 that it is sending more than $9.8 million to consumers affected by Walmart’s alleged failure to stop scams involving its wire-transfer services. The agency is mailing checks to 65,022 people.
Recipients should cash their checks within the 90-day period printed on them. Questions about payments can go to the FTC’s refund administrator, Rust Consulting, at 1-833-472-1990. Verify payment information through ftc.gov/refunds. The FTC does not charge a fee or demand bank-account information to release a refund.
The payments follow Walmart’s June 2025 settlement of FTC allegations about inadequate anti-fraud safeguards, training and warnings. This is a specific refund distribution, not a payment available to every Walmart shopper.
