American Saturday Night Live cast member James Austin Johnson took his Donald Trump impression to Saturday Night Live UK on October 17. The appearance connected the American and British casts in an already-aired sketch.
As Jed Rosenzweig reported for LateNighter, Johnson interrupted a Downing Street meeting portrayed by George Fouracres as British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Freddie Meredith as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The sketch imagined a job swap between leaders; its dialogue and events are comedy, not reporting of an actual diplomatic exchange.
For U.S. viewers, the connection is Johnson’s familiar American SNL role, now performed alongside the British cast. Michael Boyle’s report for Parade, syndicated by AOL, also described the surprise opening.
