Trudy became a Category 1 hurricane in the National Hurricane Center’s 5 a.m. Eastern update Thursday, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. The center forecast further strengthening and an approach toward southwestern and west-central Mexico over the weekend. It warned of possible flooding, dangerous surf and rip currents. The track remained uncertain, and the forecast should be checked again before travel or safety decisions.
