What to know

  • The announced CNN departure is in June 2027; Amanpour has not already left the network.
  • Her CNN International interview program will move to once a week in January 2027 and end in May.
  • Her PBS program, Amanpour & Company, is due to end in December 2026, while her podcast continues.

Christiane Amanpour plans to leave CNN in June 2027, with changes to her television programs arriving before the departure. CNN’s Brian Stelter reported the announcement October 19; CNN Brasil published his account in Portuguese.

Several dates, rather than one immediate exit

The timetable separates the end of two television programs from her final reporting work for CNN. According to CNN’s account, Amanpour will continue reporting and traveling for the network through June, after the interview show finishes.

For viewers, December is the relevant endpoint for the PBS program. January marks the change in frequency on CNN International, and May its planned conclusion. A headline saying she has already disappeared from either schedule would get ahead of the announced transition.

What she has said about the decision

CNN’s report describes a statement in which Amanpour says she decided to separate from the network after months of consideration and looks forward to new projects. CNN chief Mark Thompson’s staff memo says they had discussed the decision over several months. This reporting provides no basis to assert an undisclosed motive.

What continues

Amanpour says she will continue The Ex Files, the podcast she makes with Jamie Rubin, according to CNN’s account. The announced network departure therefore should not be described as retirement from journalism altogether. Details of other future projects remain to be announced.
