Ryan Day says Julian Sayin will miss at least several weeks as testing continues
Ohio State is turning to Luke Fahey after its quarterback’s injury at Indiana. The coach has not announced a definite return date.

What to know
- Day’s October 19 update sets a minimum absence, not a confirmed return date.
- Testing and medical discussions were still underway when he spoke.
- Luke Fahey moves into the starting role, with Tavien St. Clair behind him, Eleven Warriors reports.
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin will be sidelined for at least several weeks while his evaluation continues, coach Ryan Day said Monday on the Buckeye Roundtable show, according to Eleven Warriors reporter Dan Hope.
What happened at Indiana
Sayin was injured during the fourth quarter of Ohio State’s October 17 win at Indiana. The Buckeyes won 19–15. Monday’s update followed that game; it should not be dated as though the injury occurred when the coach discussed it.
Day did not announce a completed medical conclusion in the remarks reported by Hope. A multiweek absence leaves questions about both recovery and the rest of the season. It does not, by itself, establish that surgery is necessary or that Sayin cannot return this year.
Ohio State’s immediate adjustment
The staff’s task is to prepare Fahey for a larger role while the medical evaluation proceeds separately. Eleven Warriors reports that he has completed nine of 13 passes for 203 yards in limited action this season, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. That is a small body of work from which to predict performance over full games.
What to watch next
The most useful next information will be an updated assessment from the program and clearer details about the quarterback plan. Until then, a forecast that assigns Sayin a specific return game would go beyond the coach’s public update. The archive stadium image is from Columbus in 2009, not the away game or the injury.
