What happened in Texas vs. No. 7 Ole Miss?
No. 19 Texas beat No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, according to ESPN. Quarterback Arch Manning ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Longhorns held off a second-half comeback.
Texas built a 24-3 lead in the first half. Manning ran for a 2-yard touchdown late in the first quarter, then threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo early in the second. Michael Terry III added a 2-yard touchdown run, according to ESPN's scoring summary.
Ole Miss came back in the second half. On the opening drive of the third quarter, Manning was sacked by B. Purchase and the ball came loose, and Ole Miss returned the fumble for a touchdown, ESPN's play-by-play shows. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss then threw two touchdown passes to Horatio Fields, from 6 and 27 yards, and the second tied the game 24-24 with 13:57 left.
Texas answered. Manning scored on a 1-yard run with 8:04 to play, and kicker G. Spetic added a 33-yard field goal with 2:25 left to put the Longhorns up 10. Ole Miss' L. Carneiro made a 39-yard field goal with 1:22 remaining, but Texas held on, according to ESPN.

Running back Raleek Brown had 157 rushing yards on 23 carries, and Wingo caught seven passes for 111 yards. Chambliss was 25 of 52 for 250 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions; Justin Cryer, Rasheem Biles and Jelani McDonald each picked him off for Texas. Texas held Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy to 36 yards on 16 carries, and Jelani McDonald led the Longhorns with 12 tackles, according to ESPN's box score. Deuce Alexander was Ole Miss' leading receiver with eight catches for 87 yards.
Both teams are now 5-2, according to ESPN. The win over a top-10 opponent is the biggest of the season so far for Texas, which had lost twice before Saturday.
How did UCF beat No. 2 BYU in double overtime?
UCF beat No. 2 BYU 39-31 in two overtimes on Saturday afternoon at Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando, before a crowd of 45,112, according to ESPN. It was UCF's homecoming game.
The result was historic for UCF. The school's athletic department said it was the highest-ranked win in program history and the Knights' first win over a team ranked in the AP top five. BYU had arrived unbeaten after beating Notre Dame 28-24 the week before, ESPN reported.
The game swung back and forth. BYU scored first, and UCF led 17-14 at halftime and 24-21 after three quarters. BYU kicked the only points of the fourth quarter, a field goal, to send the game to overtime tied 24-24, according to ESPN's line score.
In the first overtime, BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier hit Legend Glasker for a 28-yard touchdown. UCF quarterback Keyone Jenkins answered with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Josh Derry.
The second overtime turned on a penalty. A UCF field goal try from 26 yards was wiped out when BYU's Kendal Wall was flagged for roughing the kicker, giving UCF a new set of downs, ESPN reported. Jenkins then threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Grayson Brousseau and found Tyren Hornes for the two-point conversion. BYU could not score on its possession, and the game ended.
Jenkins completed 25 of 41 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns, ran for another score and did not turn the ball over, according to ESPN. Hornes caught six passes for 137 yards, and running back Duke Watson ran 15 times for 94 yards. Jenkins took over as UCF's starter after Alonza Barnett III was injured on Sept. 12, according to UCF Athletics.
For BYU, Bachmeier was 16 of 32 for 257 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Kyler Kasper caught six passes for 129 yards and a touchdown.
BYU coach Kalani Sitake disagreed with the roughing call afterward, ESPN reported. He rejected the idea that his team had a letdown after the Notre Dame win and said the mistakes were "on me," according to ESPN.
UCF, coached by Scott Frost, improved to 4-3. BYU fell to 6-1.
What went wrong for USC at Wisconsin?
Wisconsin beat No. 16 USC 24-7 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, according to ESPN. The Badgers' athletic department said it was Wisconsin's first regular-season win over USC.
USC could not run the ball at all. The Trojans finished with minus-17 rushing yards, according to ESPN's box score, and Wisconsin's Sebastian Cheeks was credited with 2.5 sacks.
Quarterback Jayden Maiava threw 50 times, completing 31 for 258 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Bryce West and Cairo Skanes had the picks for Wisconsin, according to ESPN. USC also had a field goal attempt blocked, and Caden Chittenden missed a 58-yard try.
Wisconsin did not need much through the air. Running back Abu Sama III carried 17 times for 71 yards, according to ESPN. Quarterback Colton Joseph completed 12 of 14 passes for 58 yards, including a touchdown to Chris Brooks Jr. Bryan Jackson II and Ryan Schwendeman each ran for a touchdown, according to ESPN and Wisconsin Athletics.
Wisconsin moved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. USC dropped to 6-2 and 3-2 in conference play. Wisconsin plays at No. 15 Iowa on Oct. 31, according to Wisconsin Athletics.
Is Lincoln Riley on the hot seat at USC?
The loss has increased pressure on USC coach Lincoln Riley. The Los Angeles Times described Riley as embattled in its game story, and the New York Post reported that his seat is heating up after the defeat.
USC has not announced any change to its coaching staff. NewsCubby found no official statement from the university about Riley's status. Any decision would be reported only after USC confirms it.
What else happened in college football in Week 8?
Another top-10 team lost on the road. No. 8 Texas Tech fell 37-24 at Cincinnati, according to ESPN.
With the No. 2 team and two other top-10 teams beaten, and No. 16 USC routed, the new AP Top 25 will reshuffle. The new poll is due out later Sunday.
What does it mean for the College Football Playoff picture?
BYU's loss means the Cougars are no longer unbeaten, but one defeat in October does not end a playoff case. The roughing-the-kicker penalty in the second overtime will be replayed and debated in Provo all week, yet the larger question is how BYU responds. The Cougars' remaining schedule, and how the selection committee weighs their win over Notre Dame, will matter more than one Saturday in Orlando.
For UCF, the win is a turning point after an uneven start. For Wisconsin, a home win over a ranked opponent sets up a big road test at Iowa. For USC, a second conference loss leaves far less room for error in the Big Ten race.
